SIXTY YEARS ON THIS LAKE
Owned by sailors. Run by sailors. For sailors.
Generations of Lake Travis families have learned to sail on our docks. We've watched kids become captains, captains become parents, and parents bring their grandkids back for their first sail. We treat every guest like family because, frankly, a lot of them are.

What sailors say after
“My wife and I went out for her birthday on the sunset cruise by Texas Sailing. This was our first experience with sailing and we could not have been more impressed! Oliver was an incredible captain, the boat was beautiful and spacious, we learned a lot and the whole experience was simply divine. Extremely recommended for special occasions on Lake Travis.”

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Where can I go sailing in Austin?+
Lake Travis is the only place in Central Texas with enough open water and consistent wind for real sailing, 65 miles of winding Hill Country water, depths over 200 feet, and afternoon breezes that pipe up like clockwork. Texas Sailing operates out of Lakeway Marina on the south shore, about 30 minutes west of downtown Austin and 25 minutes from the Domain. Sailing magazine has named Lake Travis one of the top ten sailing lakes in the United States.
Do I need any sailing experience to go on a captained sail?+
Not a knot of it. Every captained charter is run by a professional captain, so you and your group just show up, step on, and sit back. Most of our guests have never been on a sailboat before, by the end of the sail, half of them are asking about lessons. If you do want to take the helm, just ask your captain and they'll walk you through it.
How much does it cost to go sailing on Lake Travis?+
Sunset sails start at $300 for the boat plus $50 per guest (2 hours, up to 12 people). Daytime charters are $300 plus $50 per guest for 2 hours, or $400 plus $50 per guest for 4 hours. Bareboat rentals start at $201 for a half day once you're qualified. Group sailing lessons start at $395 for a 6-hour intro to sailing class. Gift certificates are available in any amount.
What should I bring on a sailing charter?+
Soft-soled shoes (no black soles, please, they mark the deck), sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, a layer for after sunset, and any food or drinks you'd like. We provide the iced cooler, life jackets, USCG safety gear, bimini sun shade, Bluetooth speaker for your playlist, and an onboard restroom. Beer, wine, and seltzers are welcome, please leave the glass bottles at home.
How many people can go on a sailing charter?+
Our charter sailboats comfortably hold up to 12 guests. For larger groups we coordinate multiple boats and can host up to 60 guests comfortably. Kids are welcome on every charter, life jackets in their size are always on board.
What kind of sailboats do you have?+
Our fleet is 22 to 41 feet, primarily Beneteau and Jeanneau cruising sailboats, plus a few performance keelboats for racing and lessons. Every boat is owner-maintained to the standards of a Beneteau dealer, because that's exactly what we are. Browse the fleet on our Sailboat Rentals page.
What happens if the weather is bad?+
Safety wins, every time. If your captain cancels for weather, lightning, or unsafe wind, you reschedule for free, no fine print, no rebooking fees. Light rain or overcast skies usually don't cancel a sail; Lake Travis weather changes fast and some of our prettiest sunsets follow an afternoon shower.
Do you offer sailing lessons in Austin?+
Yes - Texas Sailing is a certified US Sailing school offering Basic Keelboat, Basic Cruising, Bareboat Cruising, and Coastal Navigation courses on Lake Travis. Group, private, and NauticEd online/hands-on formats available year-round, plus non-certification lessons for casual learners.
Do you sell gift certificates?+
We do, in any dollar amount, and they're our most-given Father's Day, Mother's Day, and anniversary gift in Austin. Recipients can put them toward sunset sails, daytime charters, lessons, rentals, anything we offer. Email or call us and we'll send a digital certificate the same day.
Where is Texas Sailing located?+
