“We had about 25 people on a sunset sail with captains Bill and Clark aboard a Beneteau 41 and a 35. The weather was perfect, we had a steady breeze, and our skippers really knew the boats, the lake, and the history of the area. Several of us had the chance to help on the helm or with sail handling, and Captain Clark was always ready with friendly advice and knowledge to share. Highly recommended for a team experience or an outing with friends.”

Team coordination, not solo talent.
Your team controls the boat, filling the positions of skipper, tactician, and sail trimmers across a multi-race regatta. A captain-instructor aboard each boat coaches your crew, and a committee boat runs the start line, timing, and scoring.
We start with dockside and onboard instruction so every crew knows the basics before the first race. Crews can rotate positions between races so everyone gets a turn at the helm, on the sheets, and calling tactics. The day wraps with results, a trophy ceremony, and food and drinks at the dock.
Leading companies including Dell, Schlumberger, The Wall Street Journal, and Well Services Corporation have all run the Texas Sailing Challenge Regatta to entertain clients, encourage team bonding, and foster morale.

Good to know
Common questions
How does the Challenge Regatta actually work?+
We start with dockside and onboard instruction so every crew knows the basics, then split your group across multiple boats, each with a Texas Sailing captain-instructor aboard as coach. We run a series of short races around marks on Lake Travis, with a committee boat handling start sequences, timing, and scoring. Crews can rotate positions between races so everyone gets a turn at the helm, on the sheets, and calling tactics. The day wraps with results, a trophy ceremony, and food and drinks at the dock.
What's the largest group you can host?+
The Challenge Regatta accommodates 2–36 crew members across our fleet, the largest charter sailing fleet on Lake Travis. With advance notice, we can scale even larger by partnering with vetted operators on the lake. Reach out with your guest count and target date and we'll confirm what's possible.
Do we need any sailing experience?+
None at all. The dockside and onboard instruction at the start of the day covers everything your crew needs, and a captain-instructor stays aboard every boat the whole time to coach and keep things safe. Most groups have zero prior sailing experience, that's part of what makes the trophy ceremony feel earned.
Can you provide a Certificate of Insurance?+
Of course, we issue Certificates of Insurance (COI) for regattas as standard practice. Send us your COI requirements (additional insureds, coverage limits, special wording) and we'll have a certificate to your office or risk-management team within one business day. We carry full commercial liability and passenger insurance and have worked with the procurement teams of Fortune 500s, agencies, and Austin-based startups.
Do you handle catering?+
Yes, we coordinate catering with Austin's best caterers for the dockside celebration after racing. Popular choices include BBQ from Terry Black's, taco bars from Velvet Taco or Torchy's, sushi platters, charcuterie boards, and full sit-down spreads. We can also bring in licensed bartenders for craft cocktails, beer, and wine service.
What happens if the weather is bad?+
Safety wins, every time. If your captain cancels for weather, lightning, or unsafe wind, you reschedule for free, no fine print, no rebooking fees. Light rain or overcast skies usually don't cancel a sail; some of the most dramatic Lake Travis afternoons follow a passing shower. Your safety and your experience always come first.
